“A Taste of Opera”

The great joy of this concert is the sheer breadth of music – including Puccini’s jealous lover’s quarrel from La Boheme (with one lucky volunteer from the audience), the madness of Leoncavallo’s verismo opera Pagliacci (in just 12 minutes) Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera and the thrilling operetta of Victor Herbert’s Naughty Marietta and Sigmund Romberg’s New Moon.

The rich baritone of Theodore Lambrinos (“the Metropolitan Opera’s A-Team”, New Jersey Star Ledger) and the glorious international soprano of Hallie Neill (“a rapturous singing actress”, New York Times) share their witty narrative and surprising backstage trivia that tie these entertaining vignettes together with one musical bow!

MEET THE ENTERTAINMENT

THEODORE LAMBRINOS (Baritone)

THEODORE LAMBRINOS (Baritone) Mr. Lambrinos' powerful voice and compelling stage presence make him one of the finest Verdi baritones appearing before the public today. His appearance at the Metropolitan Opera in the title role of Rigoletto was described by the New Jersey Star Ledger as a "gripping performance that brought down the house" and he was hailed as the "Metropolitan Opera's A-Team." Following ovations in Beijing, China, he was honored to perform Rigoletto in the historical first-ever performance of opera in Hanoi, Vietnam.

He created the role of Carlo Tresca in the world premiere of Anton Coppola's Sacco and Vanzetti for Opera Tampa and performed many of the leading baritone roles for the New York Grand Opera Verdi Festival in Central Park including Macbeth, Nabucco, Ernani, Simon Boccanegra, and La Forza del Destino. He has sung nearly 200 performances of Rigoletto, Nabucco, Il Trovatore, Cav & Pag, Aida, and Tosca with the European touring companies Opera 2001 and Teatro Lirico d'Europa throughout Spain, France, Portugal, Denmark and the US.

HALLIE NEILL (Soprano) has an uncommon versatility for opera, operetta and musical theatre. Miss Neill has created leading roles in two operatic world premieres: Anton Coppola’s Sacco and Vanzetti for Opera Tampa and Philip Glass’s La Belle et la Bete for the Brooklyn Academy of Music and theatres throughout Italy, Germany and Switzerland. She has appeared in concert at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, on tour with Columbia Community Concerts, with the Taiwan Symphony, Cairo Symphony, Bermuda Symphony Orchestra and in opera/Broadway concerts throughout the Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Bangkok, Sri Lanka, Korea, Egypt and Spain.

Ms. Neill’s operatic repertoire includes the leading soprano roles in Tosca, Falstaff, La Traviata, Don Giovanni, Carmen, Le Villi, Pagliacci, La Boheme, Die Fledermaus, and The Merry Widow with regional opera and light opera companies throughout the U. S. including Opera Tampa, Cairo Opera, Netherlands Opera, New York Grand Opera in Central Park and Teatro Lirico d’Europa.

BILL LEWIS (Pianist) has played concerts throughout the US and internationally, including at the prestigious Wexford Festival in Ireland, with Cynthia Haymann, Spiro Malas, J. Patrick Raferty, Maureen O’Flynn and Marcello Giordani. He has performed in concert for Presidents Reagan and Clinton and both Presidents Bush. As a vocal coach/assistant conductor, Mr. Lewis has worked for numerous regional opera companies including Santa Fe Opera, Lake George Opera, Opera/Omaha, Denver Lyric Opera and Boston Opera. He was chorus master for Boston Concert Opera, head coach at Central City Opera and served as Associate Musical Director at Natchez Opera Festival. His extensive musical theatre credits include musical director/conductor for over fifty musical productions. He was the musical director for the very successful revival of Godspell at the Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. During the last 12 years he has appeared in and produced a concert series of spiritual music in Long Eddy, New York.

This event is made possible by a generous donation from the Hunt Foundation.
